Courtesy Visit: ACEPHAP receives Chief Medical Director of Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital

African Centre of Excellence for Population Health and Policy (ACEPHAP) has last week, 16th January 2026, received Prof. Ahmed Umdagas Hamidu, the Chief Medical Director of Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH) and his management team on a strategic courtesy visit aimed at strengthening institutional ties and advancing shared health goals.

His team was received by the director of the center Prof. Hadiza Shehu Galadanci, Prof. Baba Maiyaki, In charge monitoring and evaluation, Prof. Taiwo Amole, deputy director research, Prof. Salisu Maiwada Abubakar, deputy director linkages and outreach, Dr. Ibrahim Nashabaru and other staff of the center.

Engaging discussions during the meeting explored promising areas of collaboration, with particular focus on Gynecology and Oncology—two critical fields with growing relevance to population health outcomes. Both institutions highlighted the importance of joint research, clinical training, and knowledge exchange to address emerging health challenges and improve patient care.

The conversation further extended into the rapidly evolving field of Genomics, where participants examined opportunities for capacity building, advanced research, and the integration of genomic science into public health and clinical practice. This dialogue reflected a shared vision of leveraging innovation and cutting-edge technology to strengthen health systems.

As part of the visit, the ABUTH delegation was taken on a guided tour of ACEPHAP’s state-of-the-art Simulation Laboratory and Sequencing Laboratory, showcasing the Centre’s advanced infrastructure and training capabilities. The visit concluded on a positive note, with both parties identifying key pathways for collaboration and reaffirming their commitment to impactful partnerships that will drive excellence in healthcare, research, and policy development.
