ACEPHAP, other ACE Centers participate in the Launch of African Centers of Excellence Alliance and Compendium of Achievements

African Centre of Excellence for Population Health and Policy (ACEPHAP) and other ACE centers have participated the launch of the African Centers of Excellence (ACE) Alliance and the Compendium of Achievements which marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s higher education and research landscape. The event brought together distinguished personalities from academia, government, development agencies, and industry to celebrate the successes of the ACE initiative and chart a sustainable future for its achievements.

A Steering Committee of the Alliance was created with Prof. Hadiza S. Galadanci, the Director of ACEPHAP, as part of the committee. The committee comprises representatives from various universities and thematic areas to ensure inclusivity and diversity in leadership and operations. The Compendium, unveiled by Dr. Sylvia on behalf of the AAU Secretary-General, documents the tangible outcomes of the ACE projects and serves as a reference for future development initiatives.

The ACE Project, supported by the World Bank, French Development Agency (AFD), and the Association of African Universities (AAU), was established to strengthen postgraduate education, applied research, and innovation across Africa. In Nigeria, the project has recorded remarkable achievements, transforming selected universities into regional hubs of excellence and fostering research that addresses Africa’s development challenges.

In his remarks, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alusa, said Nigerian Centers of Excellence have produced over 6,600 graduates, including 1,596 PhD holders across diverse disciplines. The centers have established strong partnerships with industries and international institutions, promoting the practical application of research outcomes. Nigerian universities under the ACE initiative have attracted millions of dollars in research grants, obtained global accreditations, and developed state-of-the-art infrastructure. The initiative has also enhanced Nigeria’s visibility in postgraduate education, research, and innovation across Africa.

The ACE Alliance was officially launched as a platform for collaboration, knowledge sharing, and sustainability of the project’s achievements. The Compendium of Achievements was also unveiled, showcasing the impact, innovation, and success stories of Nigerian ACEs.
